Tower of Temptation

Tower of Temptation is a hack of Dread about the followers of a just, but forgotten god.

Tower of Stones

You will need a block pulling game, such as Jenga, set up as described in Dread.

In this setting, gods derive not only their power, but their identities from those who have faith in them. A god who is worshipped by many is a powerful god. A god who is believed to represent war is a war god.

As you perform deeds in your god’s name, you will have the option of resisting temptation and keeping belief in your god pure, or giving in to sin and corrupting your god through others’ perception of them.

Name your god. They are good, wise and just. Place tokens on the left-most space of each row of the table below. What do they hold dominion over? What are they symbolised by?

Decide upon a hierarchy of your followers. This may change through play.

You are setting out into the world to convert people to belief in your god. You are quite sheltered, and know little about how the world has changed in your isolation. Decide why you have remained isolated until now

GM, you will create the scenarios and characters that the players will run into. Keep a rough note of how many they have successfully converted.

When you seek to do something that is not easy, choose one:

To do something in a manner that is good and just, pull a block from the tower.

If the tower falls, the strain is too great and you give in to sin utterly. Choose a sin and move its token to the end of the track. Your actions epitomise this sin.

To do something in a manner that is sinful, choose the appropriate sin and move its token one level up the track.

If you feel the pressure is too great, you may martyr yourself in the name of your god.
Push over the tower. You will die completing this action, but you may reset one sin track to zero (so long as it was not in the end zone).

If one of the sin tokens reaches the end zone, that is now an aspect of your god and not a sin. You will now need to pull blocks to perform actions that invoke this aspect.

Power:

Low- The belief of 5-10 people- your god is unable to help

Limited- The belief of 11-50 people- opportunities seem to find you

Moderate- The belief of 51-200 people- you are presented with signs

Substantial- The belief of 201-1000 people- you may work small impossible feats

Significant- The belief of 1001-5000 people- you wield divine powers

Miraculous- The belief of 5001+ people- you may perform major miracles

To use your god’s power in line with one of their aspects, draw two blocks.

To use your god’s power sinfully, advance a token two levels up the appropriate track.
